CMA recording artist, Jake Gill was born into a family of a high school band teacher, Jake was surrounded by music right away. Pictures from his childhood show Jake engulfed in oversized headphones listening to his Dad’s Symphonic record player. Jake remembers the strong horns of Branford Marsalis and other artists, but distinctly remembers Chicago in his ears way before the age of 2. His mom will tell you that even as an infant he would stand on her lap and help his father direct the high school band concert.
Throughout his childhood, Jake enjoyed singing at talent shows, school and his Dad’s church choir. He won a number of talent contests, and learned to play many musical instruments starting in 5th grade but didn’t start to play guitar until high school.
College brought a turn in Jake’s life and he felt the calling to pursue a career in healthcare, to help as many people as possible. At first he wanted to go to medical school, but after a life changing injury, Jake was led to pursue a career in chiropractic. Jake continued to sing and learned to play guitar in college and played coffee houses and intimate venues while balancing his studies.
Graduation brought the need for income to the forefront and he opened a chiropractic practice in Hutchinson, KS. Now, he feels it is time to begin chasing his ultimate dream of playing in the circle on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
Jake’s influences arise from many artists, most recently singer/songwriters like Eric Church, Josh Thompson, and Brantley Gilbert. You can hear the influence in his music from these talented musicians. A few of his songs will bring a hint of Kenny Chesney to the forefront. Jake is a huge fan of Kenny’s earlier work.
Some of the greatest influences on his life have come from the relationships that he has developed over the years. Of course being able to write with his father is one of his biggest highlights. But the loves, the friendships and the good times that Jake has been fortunate to experience is what most people will relate to in his music
